Judge Janine Barbera-Dalli (Ret.)

Of Counsel

Born and raised on Long Island, Hon. Janine A. Barbera-Dalli studied Business Marketing and minored in Journalism at Hofstra University and received her BBA degree in 1983; after graduating from Brentwood Sonderling High School in 1979. Judge Barbera-Dalli received her JD from St. John's University in 1986.

In January of 1996, after 10 years of working in various private practice firms, Judge Barbera- Dalli opened her own Law Practice with partner James McElhone to form Barbera & McElhone PC in Miller Place New York. Her practice concentrated on Matrimonial Law, Family Law, Real Estate and Adoptions.

Judge Barbera-Dalli has been an adjunct Professor of Paralegal Studies at New York Institute of Technology and is a licensed instructor of New York Real Estate Sales and Brokers Courses.

Ms. Barbera is a member of the New York Bar Association, Suffolk County Bar Association, The Woman's Bar Association and the Divorce Mediation Association.

Judge Barbera- Dalli is admitted to practice in the courts of:

The Second Department, The Eastern District of New York; The US Court of Appeals of the 2nd Circuit; The Federal Court of Claims; The US Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces and The US Supreme Court.

Judge Barbera-Dalli was elected to the Suffolk County District Court in November 2012; In 2013-2014 Judge Barbera-Dalli sat in the civil part in 6th and 4th Districts hearing Landlord Tenant; Town Ordinance and Civil Cases. In 2014 she was assigned to the 1st District Court all purpose Criminal part. In 2015 she presided over the Environmental Conservation Calendar hearing cases regarding criminal misdemeanor offenses. In 2017 she was made Acting County Court Judge and presided over the Human Trafficking Part in addition to the Environmental Conservation Calendar and the all-purpose Criminal part.

Judge Barbera-Dalli received her Court approved Part 146 certification in Matrimonial Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution in 2019 and thereafter served as Legislative Counsel to New York State Senator Mario Mattera in 2020. Now semi-retired and living in Montauk with her husband the Judge is pleased to work as Of Counsel to the Hedayati Law Group.
