What are acceptable grounds for divorce in New York?
New York recognizes fault-based and no-fault grounds for divorce. No-fault grounds include an irretrievable breakdown of the marriage for at least six months. Fault-based grounds can include:
- Cruel and inhuman treatment
- Abandonment for one or more years
- Imprisonment for three or more years
- Adultery
